Been watching the GOP debate on-and-off (as continuous watching risks brain haemorrhage). It's sad, really. They're all lining up to promise their American viewers that they're going to make it all better - going to make them rich and happy and fix all the problems of society.

Yeah, no one would ever get elected if they told the truth, because as much as they complain about it after the fact, people just don't want to hear the truth.

I think Jimmy Carter tried it - didn't he give a big speech during his second run at presidency? All about how consumerism and the 'american way of life' was slowly destroying them? Well, any hope he had of re-election was destroyed, for sure :\
