Epitaph Two - Take Two?

Feb 03, 2010 12:51

So I totally have homework, and I realize I haven't written in this journal in months, but I'd like to talk a little bit about the Dollhouse season finale. Because there were some serious issues I had with the episode, some things I really loved, and one idea for a rewrite that I cannot get out of my head.

aka, why Sierra should have died - even though I love her! )

pseudo-meta, dollhouse is a puzzle

YAY! You're back! I'm so excited!

I agree with pretty much all of this. And I got a shout-out! And totally agree with you applying that conversation here.

Except for the Sierra dying thing. Because I think it was way, way more outside of Joss's comfort zone to let a couple actually be happy for once. I mean, I get what you're saying about it providing some interesting emotional catalyst for Victor/Tony, but...sometimes I just want people to be happy. And since nobody else really is, it made me super happy that it actually happened this time.

But yes: I think there was some rewriting that would have made it stronger, but on the whole, I am satisfied, because it's soooo much better than I expected it to be. I thought it would suck. It didn't! YAY!

Maybe my standards are too low?

aw, hi! i'm back, more or less...i AM trying to fit lj into my daily life; i miss it a lot when i can't post and talk to my lj friends! :_(

you're not the first person i've heard this from, actually, and it's a totally valid (and interesting) point. and it makes me wonder how many joss couples end up together---actually the only ones i can think of (not being an angel fan) are simon and kaylee. well, and willow and kennedy, but tara's death sort of casts a long shadow over that one. so you make a good point...which makes me a little sad, that i'm so intrigued by killing off the relationship! i blame my inner fanfic writer ( ... )

It's a challenge, finding that balance. I understand.

There are definitely no couples happy at the end of Angel. There aren't even any women alive. (My AtS issues: let me show you them). Also, I don't think anybody was actually invested in Willow/Kennedy, so I wouldn't count them.

So we've got two couples: Simon/Kaylee and Priya/Tony. And since I don't think Simon and Kaylee are endgame for each other...for me there's only really Priya and Tony who have a shot at a life together (like Wash and Zoe before JOSS WENT ALL EVIL).

However. While I don't want Priya dead in canon, I do think it would make for awesomeawesomeawesome fanfic. And if you read it, I would read it. Eagerly.

yes, exactly.

this makes me sad. but i think i can see your point. they're sort-of the space traveler type, aren't they? i want to know (apparently i am in a fanfic state of mind) who river would end up with, if she ended up with someone.

haha, well. i still have that other WIP, and things. but maybe i could do this as a one shot/a few one shots. hopefully not an epic! hm.... : )

Did you see Epitaph One??

of course! i loved it. why do you ask?

Because you ask about what happened to Whiskey. But as far as Dr. Saunders, they'd know that she'd been programmed for Boyd, and Topher probably couldn't have fixed that, though he did build what saved the world

well we only sort-of know what happened to whiskey, as far as i can tell. because the flashback where she patches up echo shows that she somehow made it back into the dollhouse, and remained there as claire.

I absolutely agree with your Sierra instead of Pual suggestion! I know that EVERYONE loves Sierra/Victor and maybe that's part of the reason why I don't. They're sweet and cute, and all this "I always love you even if I don't know you" thing is really touching but...Dunno, maybe they're a bit TOO sweet for me, like Buffy/Angel when Angelus is left out. They're sappy for me. *shrug* Echo/Paul? Now this is a relationship that I really loved in season 2, hated the idea in season 1, yes, but they actually put it well and I fell for them. :D

I agree on pretty much everything else. Except that I find Topher's death epic! Not cool epic, just epic! He was my absolute favorite but it just seemed right for him to go out like that....maybe I wanted Adelle to go with him. They were my OTP since I was Epitaph 1. And I dunno about Eliza's scene, I watched it only once, will go and re-watch. :D

i mean i really like them...but they've explored all the soulmate-y themes before. we know them by now. you know?

ack, topher AND adelle?! that would emotionally KILL me. but i totally agree with the epic feel of the death...especially because of that visual of the ray swelling out and killing him...there was just something about the way they did that effect that felt intense.
there have been a bunch of good topher/adelle moments in the past couple episodes! not explicit or anything, but they were clearly bonding more and more, which was great.

Yup, I absolutely understand you!

LOL! I never thought I'd ship these two and then Epitaph One came and I was like "OMG! I want them together!"
Yeah, it wasn't the death that was OK but how it was done.

Oh, goody, I have so many thoughts on this. :)

1. Alpha - I was totally surprised by this, but it was very nice. I was kind of confused at first though, and thought maybe these people had been changed from butchers to regular dolls with the gas Whiskey put on them, but I think it was just people he got together. I wish we could have had a more definitive send-off with him, though - people talking about why he left wasn't very fulfilling.

2. T was *so* cute - I died like every time I saw him. Especially when he told Tony that was his name too! <3 ( ... )

yay, i love thoughts! (and especially yours!)

1. people talking about why he left wasn't very fulfilling.
i agree completely...although they did a pretty good job considering the time they were given, right?

3.And I kind of liked how she finally "lets Paul in".
this seemed kind of cheesy to me. niiiice, i guess? but cheesy.
...i can totally see crack!fic being made from that moment, actually, and now i wish i wasn't such a cynic!

4.It happened suddenly, but not in a "omigod shocking" way but more in a "huh, did something just happen?" way.
YES and
I feel like Paul's death was really used so Echo could have a storyline
ALSO YES. SO MUCH YES.

5.what did you want to know about dominic? i thought he was used pretty well, acutally...OH WAIT THE EPITAPH ONE SCENE. sorry about that...what happened in his scene with adelle again?
also maybe that was supposed to be one of those memories that got altered- remember that explanation from joss?

because it takes away from every single totally touching moment Boyd and Echo ever had, and ( ... )

Yeah, well in Epitaph One he's escaped from the Attic and is confronting Adelle, and he's all helping people defeat Arcane in the Attic and stuff...I don't remember very well, actually. :D

seriously! you should tell me what he says, considering i don't know when i'll (eventually) see the dvds. it's a budget thing, you know?

Haha, totally, I will reveal all. When I get it in like who knows how long, lol.

it's so silly, because season 1 was too slow and 2 was too fast. we need like a season in between them, speed-wise.

I think he wanted to die, wanted to be with Bennett again.
aww, that's so sad. but it does put a brighter spin on his death, which is really impressive!
