The Southampton tickets were limited to standing room in the Balcony by yesterday lunchtime when I finally got through.

I realise I've been pathetically London-centric here... ;-)

i could be wrong but tickets fot BBC things are usually free, and available from the BBC webpage.

not on this, they've sold tickets for ISIHAC for years, I went to the London Palladium a few years ago for it, and that cost a lot more, I recall.

I agree though, BBC tickets are usually free, but they're small audiences of 2-300. I suspect the only way they can let as many people as possible come to recordings is to use big venues and they have to charge. If they kept it in the radio theatre, tickets would be even more impossible to get hold of...

They are only free in BBC venues. When they do location recordings then you buy the tickets from the venue concerned and they charge as they would normally but without the extra production charge added in, e.g. the Southampton tickets cost £8 for standing (venue Mayflower Theatre).

When I went to ISIHAC about 6 years ago in Bath at the Theatre Royal, the tickets were about the same, roughly half what it cost to see a play at the same venue.

It took me 35 minutes to get through on the phone (redialling constantly from just before 10am) by which time London tickets were completely sold out. Got through on the website after 20 mins right up to entering credit card details - and then it crashed. Oh well!
