Bah! You and your crazy mind-numbing inquirrrrrrrrrry~~

I figured commenting would be easier to explain than filling out your poll [sorry!]. I've actually.... never used the term "alternate timeline." I suppose I've always been accustomed to alternate universe. Though the definitions provided don't particularly paint much difference from each other... so I can see where this could turn into an interesting debate ( ... )

You know what, you deserve a big MUUUUUAHHHH!! Thanks a bunch for writing me such an essay on the subject. Verrry happy! :D

Very interesting train-of-thought you have, and I agree with your "[...] using the same characters still, but relevant to the original storyline, but more of a red vs. blue pill context. Ultimately, the two could be seen as the same... but are determined by different factors?" ♥

I guess my counter would be that using AT and acknowledging it's existence are two different things, i.e. even though I rarely use the term "hurt/comfort" (fic genre) when describing a fic I still know that there are some termed just that. X) ...if you get what I'm trying to say?

Regarding the last paragraph, I definitely agree with you! A good author can make the most natural thing in the world seem fascinating, but a good plot or twist is usually what makes you keep reading a fanfic for pages upon pages!

HAVE A GREAT TIME IN EUROPE DOOD! *punch*
