Kings: I have high hopes but only because i'm going to try to take this as being based off of the story of David and not a direct retelling. I mean Jonathan and David were the closest of friends... Jack, however, seems to have an underlying hatred of David. A resentment. I'm willing, as well, to give them a break on the homosexual front. The benefit of the doubt. Instead of trying to be gimmicky they could have just been looking for a suitable and interesting reason why the King wouldn't be looking to him to take the throne and that is what they came up with. They seemed to be handling Jack's sexual preference tastefully, at least. Him sharing a look with one of "his boys" and that being the extent of it. I got the feeling that the dialogue was an attempt at having more of a traditional, "days of kings and knights" type of speaking mixed with modern day talk. I felt at times it worked and at times it just felt... odd. But I'm gonna go ahead and get my hopes up that they can keep it interesting.

Oh, yeah, definitely gonna keep watching.

I liked Jack's resentment of David's popularity. That seems totally natural and befitting, and also gives this story some genuine conflict. (Since things seem to go so easy for David.) And when they end up bein' total BFFs, it'll make that relationship so much more satisfying by contrast. =)

Yeah, when I saw Watchmen there was a lot of inappropriate laughter in my theater, too. Really made me angry. They were laughing when The Comedian attacks Silk Spectre, and when Nite Owl II and Silk Spectre II are breaking Rorschach out of prison, and at Rorschach's death. Just wanted to scream at them all to shut up. ;___;

I felt that some of the violence was over the top. The sex...I didn't mind so much. I appreciated that it was so awkward about it. When Laurie and Dan (successfully) make love, there's a kind of ridiculous quality to it that I think is really right. But at the same time, as dumb as they look, it's beautiful, too, because of all that it represents--their, uh...ya know, achieving a moment of climax in their lives in general...and there's a kind of foolishness to it ( ... )
