I first read this story forever and an age ago in a large book crammed full of short stories & poems. Someday, if I ever find a copy of that book, I will buy it for happy nostalgic reasons

Ah, yes, this story. I've read many versions. ;) I bookmarked the other two, though; I love The Necklace and haven't heard of The Adventure of the German Student (I don't think).

Fantastic! Love it! My head did not fall off in surgery you'll be glad to hear, but I'm glad you drew my attention to it. Did you take it directly from somewhere or is this your interpretation of a story/stories you've heard elsewhere?
