Mary is so often written as either an obstacle or a pawn. I wanted to write her as an admirable person, dealing with an incredibly tricky situation.

I felt sad for Holmes, though, when he was thinking that they can't marry. And Watson wouldn't want to do anything against his wife, so they won't be together-together. Can't wait for the next part.
