In an effort to minimize bed space, and maximize sleeping capacity. I am debating buying one of these for the guest bedroom.

I wouldn't get it- but that's just me. We're putting a futon in our spare room, and our couch pulls out to a double bed... so we've been fine so far.

If I had access to either a futon, or a pull out couch. I would debate going the same route as you.

I would entertain the idea of a pull out couch. The only negative is that they cost more (than non pull out couch), and they are heavy!

In certain types of houses, bunk beds are very popular!

Yes. Much like a frat house. Alternatively, I could find two FULL loft beds. This would maximize floorspace 100%. And, there are a ton of them on craigslist. The kids in Newark are moving out.

Another thing I am keeping a secret. Is that we recently inquired about a "Bar Cabinet - $100" on craigslist. We found that it is a beautifully constructed, solid wood wonder that was handmade during WWII in Thailand...currently in a bedroom at the Kappa Sig house at UD.

We are picking it up tonight. Don't worry brother-husband Tom is coming along to help move it. :)

Totally do it! Great use of space. The matress stays flat and doesn't get lumpy like a futon matress. Great for friends with kids. Or friends right out of the college dorm room life. Or the friends that always slept up on the luggage rack on the tour bus. :)

Anyone who thinks a full-size bed is too small for them isn't going to like a futon or a pull out couch either. For those people may I say that you can rent a king-sized bed at Rent-A-Center for a week for cheeper than their stoopid queen sized air matress that ripped up my good sheets. And the Rent-A-Center guys do the moving for you.

The one on craigslist is from pier 1 kids. Retailed(pier 1 kids out of business) for $909 a few years ago. Currently listed on craigslist for $500. It's been posted for awhile. I don't plan on waiting anywhere near that amount. From talking to the lady it looks like they are having a time getting any takers.

Anything comparable to this item is over $1200. Some up to $2000.

Sounds like you are speaking from experience! ;-) Look at all the good life lessons you learn from your in-laws!

Shelley's advice on in-laws (given through walk through of my house)

"Put them in the basement."

If the 'guest bedroom' is full of bunk beds. They will have to sleep elsewhere.

I say do it. Bunk beds are awesome. Anyone who doesn't think so is clearly lying. Like Kate.

I don't know... it seems like people who like Bunk Beds also live a little like they are still in a frat.

Kate's just a grown up now-- Don't be bitter. ;)

I agree with both of you Steve and Chris.

Yes. Kate is grown-up. Yes. She is lying.

Kate is grown up to the point of thinking about kids. What better a purchase for an almost mom but two beds for future kids. (they split apart)

I am interested in the sleep maximizing, space minimizing effects of bunk beds.

Kate watches her nephews on a very regular basis. Maybe she doesn't want bunk beds because she doesn't want them having too much fun and therefore they would WANT to be at her house even more than they already are.
