Rachel wondered, vaguely, if it was weird that she was going out for drinks with one of Christopher's co-workers. She wasn't particularly close to any of House's team, after all. But that didn't mean she couldn't be friendly, right

It was probably weirder that he'd asked her, but something in the way she talked about her relationship resonated with him more than hearing the other side from Taub ever had. He'd told the man to think hard before making a move that could screw his life up, and now apparently he'd taken up pottery classes. Choice made. Chase was fine working with people who could be arses; it didn't mean he had to agree with them

As far as Rachel was concerned it wasn't really something that was necessary for Christ to know. Why risk unneeded stress, after all, when it was just drinks?
She wasn't entirely certain why Chase had asked her, but she was warily hopeful for the night. And a glass of wine or two was always nice.
When she heard the knock at the door she moved to pick up her purse from the side-table and slipped into her heels before coming to the door. She opened it and smiled. "Good evening."
It was a little awkward, for the first second or two, to be standing on the doorstep without anything to offer. A long time since he'd done anything like this, he'd become used to turning up at Cameron's place with dinner, or flowers, at least a bottle of wine for later. The sheepish look on Chase's face was only brief before he replaced it with a smile of his own, holding out a hand to help her down the steps.
They knew each other, of course, he'd seen her at work functions and picked up the office phone often enough to be able to say Taub, your wife wants to know where you are without having to ask who it was. He'd never really looked, though. Now that he did, Taub was apparently more of an idiot than he'd thought.
After being married for a number of years you start to forget that there was ever a time in life when people arrived on the doorstep with little tokens and Rachel was a little bit charmed by the look on Chase's face. She accepted his hand, lightly, after she had closed and locked the front door.
He wasn't an idiot. Not in Rachel's mind. Granted, she had spent the time since Chris had admitted his infidelity mulling it over. Clearly it was something she had done, right? Something about her wasn't good enough.
"I am, thank you," Rachel said and she flashed Chase another smile.

"Should be. You're ready to go?"
