Yeah, I hear Meisha Merlin's copyediting was terrible (there was an earlier, shorter edition from Hypatia, which might be better). It's a moot point since copies appear to be unobtainable for less than $50 and my library system doesn't have it.
It's really ironic that MM's crappily-produced books are now Valuable Collectors' Items. Fortunately both Hodgell and the Liaden books are being republished at Baen.
One thing I said was: I don't know exactly why, but I don't care so much about Tori. In all the books, I generally want his sections to be over so that we get back to Jame. I think I'm more curious abuot Yce than I am about Tori.
Given the societal setup in the book, who's involved in a romance? The only genuine romances I've seen are between women and their sister-kin. Also, it's pretty clear where Jame is headed, marriage-wise if not entirely romantically.
It just doesn't seem to be a society with any emphasis on romantic love as such; sex, yes, affection, yes, but deep love seems to be reserved for kin.
God Stalk I really loved. The rest... =shrug= not so much. The anthology I'll get when I can get it at an affordable price if only to be able to mark the series as complete in the book cataloguing software.

ISFDB says that there is also a collection of stories set in the same world, Blood and Ivory.

I often want to smack Tori in the head and tell him to get a clue. Also, I love Hodgell, but romantic passion is not her strong suit.
