Well - not exactly. Cassel doesn't die, but he's left in extreme emotional distress. But there's going to be a sequel, which I hope will leave him in a good place. Also, the "dead girl" isn't really dead.

This is actually the first in a trilogy. RED GLOVE, the next book in the series, is terrific and develops the relationships and the world (curse-worker-phobia and such) further.

Short BlackBerry typing version. Really liked this but briefly thought cat night turn out to just be cat and got way more attached to the idea than reasonable.

I like the sound of this! While some of Holly Black’s other books have been a bit self-consciously dark and gritty, this one was dark in conception but bright in reading.

That was encouraging--and I like what you say about the con-artist mentality, too.

That said, I think I'll wait for other books to come out... don't want to be stuck at the sucker-punch stage of things.
