What happened with Mirrim reminds me of what fanfic writers do to characters they don't like and want to get away from the character with whom they are in lust. Except that it was the same author ... .

Maybe she wanted to hook Menolly up with Sebell (a pairing that leaves me utterly cold) and was worried that Mirrim/Menolly might spontaneously combust the universe with coolness...

Okay, maybe that's just me.

I find poor Menolly sadly asexual, despite how much I loved her as a POV character in my teens. But I'll agree that Sebell is even worse.

Meanwhile, someone needs to write me Black Lagoon fic. Or P.C. Hodgell fic. Or something. (I was so pleased with my Legal Drug stocking stuffers last year!)

Dude! I'm trying to write Black Lagoon fic for Kink Bingo & Cliche Bingo. (Gawd, don't laugh at my attempts too much...)

Considering how often I drift to anime fanworks over Western fandom fanworks, I'm kind of surprised that my list so far is for the TV show Life--someone's take on the third season that will possibly never be--and for Brust's novels--extrapolation on the future stuff hinted at so far). But there you go.

YES.  MIRRIM WTF.  Just, why?  She started out a little stressed but otherwise fine, and then took a turn for the bitch!  Augh!

There's a lot of WTF in the later books, and even more WTF if you see interviews with McCaffrey. Golds can only be impressed by "fully female" women (nooooo lesbians! the dragons can smell it on them, icky!), green riders are all gay, or at least get turned gay by being fucked, because there's these *hormones* that get released when they are anally penetratred. She knows, you see, because a friend of hers got raped with a tent peg and turned up gay later!

I started thinking about this last night, actually. Right now, I'm on a big 'Chess' the musical kick. I'm considering asking for something based on the recent 'definitive' concert version and related to the character Florence because all the fic seems to be about slashing the two male characters and I'd much rather read about the smart, competent woman.

I'm also seriously considering asking for 'Oishinbo' fic. You know, for sheer crack value.

I hadn't thought about it, but I'd probably offer to write it if it were a request. XD

I'm thinking something centered on the partner/girlfriend/wife character. Particularly her getting to really show off what she knows with extra special bonus points for putting the smackdown on the male leads.

I don't know, I just have this vision of her really wearing the pants in that relationship.

You could be right. Yamaoka strikes me as not having the motivation to actually do anything unless forced to by circumstances.

WORD on Mirrim.

I've gotten, or written, so many of the fics I've really wanted in the last couple of years that I've got nearly a clean slate this time round, which is both freeing and daunting. I know I want Vorkosigan fic. I think I may request the story where Aral's past catches up with Miles. I don't care how.

I've also got a preliminary list of things that ought to get nominated, dammit, whether I actually want to write them or not. So far all I've got on it is Jokes-- Sven and Ole and Lena (because I really am that Midwestern, apparently), and. Um. The Sime/Gen series. Because vampire tentacle soul-bonding slavefic cold war adventure stories could actually be awesome if the writing didn't suck so very deeply.

I think I read those in high school! You're right, they could have been awesomely idtastic in more skilled hands.
