More Incomprehensible Award Nominations!

Note to helpful commenters: Please at least attempt to explain what is incomprehensible, even in brief (I realize this is inherently difficult.) For example, "I understood it until Dave turned into a giant space fetus, unless that was supposed to be metaphorical."

If the series/movie/whatever is still running or is very recent (like Tsubasa) ( Read more... )

Yes, that's Altered States, all right. Except there were also sensory deprivation tanks.

I remember being really strongly affected by that movie when I was a kid. Now I wonder why.

And it resolves b/c he chooses LOVE. At least it doesn't fit into my 'FIFTH ELEMENT' pet peeve, ie, kind of homely guy saves the world by fucking a hot chick.

Quiet Earth should now be findable on DVD. I bought a UK version but a US version came out. If you wanna post about it on your LJ and put a URL here, I am happy to talk to you about what I remember of the ending (I bought it on DVD to rewatch it, but have not yet done so). I know of at least two interpretations.

Oh, I liked the movie too. I was just baffled by the moon of Jupiter conclusion (and also why he could breathe on it.)

I suspect Puma Blues is too obscure and affected by publishing circumstances to really count. So my vote's for the last official episode of Evangelion, which, in addition to trying to explain and resolve a phenomenally complex situation in 23 or so minutes, was apparently put together with the $20 they had left in the animation budget.

Oh yeah, I thought of Akira too.

NGE had a double-dose of incomprehensible, given that one finale eschewed plot over low-budget, freaky psychotherapy, and the other decided to, um, melt the entire world or something? I don't know. RIGHT?

(Hell, the friend I watched it with even said, "It's not about making sense." (It's about "being affecting."))

And, not being a depressed nihilist, I still add Lain to the list. It sure never quite explained what was up with the Wired and how many Lains there were and what/who was real and what/who wasn't and whether any of the story really mattered by the end. Also I think one of them was Satan? I don't know.
