Ooo, I saw Taste of India in my library! Is that the super-hard-to-find Jaffrey you were talking about, or is that another? Also, does it have a lot of info about Indian food along with recipes, since my record of home cooking sort of sucks?

Yes! That's the one! It's on regional cooking, with gorgeous photos and really well-written, evocative essays. And recipes. I have not tried the recipes, but people say they work well and are easy to follow.
