FYI, Green's work has been getting better and better. I think An Abundance of Katherines and Paper Towns both blow Looking for Alaska out of the water; in fact, Paper Towns feels a lot like a rewriting of Alaska--one that's a lot less obvious.
Hmm, I didn't read your spoiler, but did read the comments. I'm remembering why I hated Bridge to Terebithia. Of course she dies!!! But not until after they have sex and she gives bith to child within weeks of her power hungry mother also giving birth to a child. The birth causes wild girl's death, since our hero had to perform an emergency c-section with his own teeth. Oh, oh, sorry, I'm getting it confused with other current YA.
Miles and Alaska end up being the same person, just not aware of it. They come from the future and the mad scientist had split the souls of his children into little bits and he sent them back in time and into new babies. There they will grow up forever lacking but they get drawn together inexplicably. They have to go on a quest to find out what is going on. If all the parts of a soul reunite they get superpowers and...... well the rest is obvious *grin*
