Venetia, by Georgette Heyer; Your Wicked Ways, by Eloisa James

Continuing my theme of accidental paired reads, I recently read two Regency romances with strong comic elements, both by women, both of which I absolutely loved and would recommend whether you normally like romance or not.

I don't normally read romance and haven't read any Heyer but you do have my interest piqued now...will have to check this one out next trip to the library :)

There is (in Her Wicked Ways) but I don't know how accurate it is, and other parts of the book might drive you insane. I think you would probably prefer Venetia, which has no music but a great deal of quoting of famous authors.

... in a very Lord Peter + Harriet Vane manner, I might add. More so than, really, elsewhere in Heyer (even The Unknown Ajax).

My friend Chrysoula has observed that Venetia can almost work as a vampire novel if you simply mentally substitute the word "soul" each time the word "reputation" appears.

My favorite bit is the discussion near the end of orgies.
