This blisteringly intense novel is one of the best books I’ve read all year. It’s a character portrait in gorgeous prose, has elements of magical realism and suspense thriller, and was impossible for me to put down once I’d started. (It’s short enough to read in one sitting.) aaaaaugh, this, this this. apparently 12 years is still not enough distance (I recently had to unfollow someone because I couldn't take watching their feed become nothing but this and all the feelings that dredged up with me) and the whole thing gives me all the uuuuck.

Wow, that read like a book that happened *fast.* I'm not totally sure that I feel like it worked as a narrative, but it sure as hell did a lot of things that sure as hell needed to be done. I'm glad I read it. Thanks for the tip.
