Not a memoir, but "Reach for the Sky" is the famous British biography of Douglas Bader, the flyer who lost both legs in a crash but still got to fly Spitfires in the war until he was shot down over Germany and spent the rest of the war as a POW, with the RAF famously parachuting a new artificial leg to him in Colditz to replace the one he lost when he was shot down. Etc. One of those extraordinary lives. (Also a movie, starring Kenneth More.)

I just picked this book up at Logos' going out of business sale (sigh...) and am looking forward to reading it.
