Today I heard of the death of an acquaintance's wife. I asked for an address to send flowers. Or did the family want a donation to a charity in lieu of flowers

I'm so sorry, every time I hear this story, that you live under such an inhumane system.

I do understand that some Americans could be so terrified of losing the tiny bit of healthcare that they have that they would oppose change; I do not understand people who defend the current system.

The worst of it is that people pay a lot of money every month for their health insurance plans, only to have the health insurance company weasel out of paying most of the bill.

I think most Americans in their hearts know we have a terrible system; but the right wingers have (incredibly) associated our terrible system with God, Country, Mom and Apple Pie, and anyone who wants national health insurance is a terrorist.

This shouldn't happen. A serious illness shouldn't be the end of your family's financial security. I wish there was a way to help people who fear universal healthcare see how it works in other countries - but I know that our NHS is constantly undermined in US media. (And constantly under attack from US drug companies - we're fighting against a filthy corporate move by Pfizer right now that is threatening government regulation of distribution of medications.)

The conservatives here constantly manipulate the media to scare Americans and tell us how awful national health insurance would be. They can always find a malcontent in Canada to film a national commercial about how awful universal health care is.
