I do the same, actually. For me, the critical issue is more that there are *some* characters who are like me than that I read about them all the time. I live my life--I don't really want to read about it in every comic I pick up. But it still makes a difference to know that *someone* shares my--or at least part of my--frame of reference, or can drop their own for long enough to create a character with it.

do characters in comics even have allergies?
Heh--none that I know of, unless you count Superman and Kryptonite...
