We've only got 28% reporting yet, but you can guess how it's going here: Hillary and Huckabee. I think if the devil his own self was from Arkansas we'd all vote for him.

It's so funny that such polar opposite candidates are both from the heads of your state...What caused the shift from the Clinton-era to Huckabee? I mean, that is just night and day!!

And I think most people's "home states" vote for them. They do know the person best in a leadership role (especially as a governor) and I think everyone likes a hometown hero :-D

Well, it's like this. Clinton was governor and Jim Guy Tucker was Lt Governor, then Clinton was elected president in '92 and resigned the governorship. Jim Guy, a Democrat, became governor and Mike Huckabee was elected Lt Governor, because in Arkansas they don't have to be from the same party, although they usually are. Then, Jim Guy got indicted for land fraud in 1996: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Guy_Tucker stemming from the White Water case, and had to resign, making Huckabee governor. Then Huckabee got elected governor on his own in 1998 (partially because he was already acting as governor, and Arkansasians like the status quo and tend to reelect the incumbent, and partly out of disgust over Jim Guy's scandal) and served two four-year terms until he was term-limited and the Democrats came back into power with Mike Beebe winning election in 2006 ( ... )

His real name was "Jim Guy"?

God, I love the south.

The more I hear about Obama, the more I like him. Definitely feel the opposite about Hillary. She annoys me.

The NC Republican/Democratic Presidential Primary is not until May 6...I'm really curious about who will win here.

I don't see how she still has the support she has. She definitely is an annoying character to me. I think she's fake fake fake!!

Well, when the likability factor leads to my complete and total distrust of her character, it might seem a little more important :-)

But she's never been a president, so I don't get why people keep saying she's got "experience." She has the experience of living in the public eye and of residing in the White House. And I don't think ANY new president, regardless of previous experiences in politics, can ever get anything done starting day one. All she's got as an example is what Bill did. And this ain't Bill's country anymore :-(

I just want some change. And I think Ben makes a good point when he says that the country should not be run for 20+ years by only two families.

I actually voted for Hillary in the california primary. I just have this thing against Oprah. If she can pick a president then this country is more in the toilet than I previously had thought.

One thing I like about Obamma is legalizing pot. I would vote for him if he did that.

Well, I was aware of Barack before Oprah endorsed him, so she didn't have anything to do with my choice :-) But I do understand your feelings, and I'm sure that many people feel that way.

But I just don't see why two families should run the country for a minimum of 24 years (if she wins). That's why we didn't just have a king in the first place, right? ;-)

I actually am not too excited about anybody this go-round. I guess people starting to run in 2006 has just ran the president thing into the ground. Maybe I am a geek or something because I pay close attention to that stuff. I have stayed away from it pretty much all year.
I am registered as an independant in California so I got to vote in the Democratic primary. Most times I vote Republican though. In this day in age I really can't see any difference between Demorcrat and a Republican though.

Funny to see Huckbee take Alabama though...

I am so not surprised about Huckabee in Alabama. He rode in on his magical bible and they freaking love that. Because they all love Jesus and Jesus loves them better than anyone else. Because if you're a democrat, you hate God and Jesus and probably eat babies on the weekend.

:-)

I know that's a little dramatic, but you remember - I'm not TOO far off!!

I too am white, from SC and a huge Obama supporter. None of my friends seem to understand why I like them. Then of course, they are mostly republican or do not care about politics at all.

I understand the apathy, and quite honestly, I used to just not care, too, because it really doesn't seem like you can do much to change anything. But then I figured the one thing I actually COULD do was vote, and so I make sure I at least try to pick someone who would be beneficial to the most people in the country. And I can't help but feel like Republicans are generally out for themselves, and I just don't want to live in a selfish country anymore. It's too much like high school, where all the snotty rich kids were popular and ran everything. If we're going to survive in today's world, we're going to have to take care of ourselves AND be kind to one another a little bit more.

Good for you for making a choice. And even if he doesn't win the nomination or an election, at least you cared enough to support someone!
