Cardiff!

So my trip to go visit Leanna in September is all set. I've booked by airline tickets (woo! sale price too!) and I've done my research on getting from Heathrow to Cardiff - and will make by decision on if I'm taking the coach or the train a few weeks before I leave based on prices. New passport in hand and I'm counting the days till September ( Read more... )

Love the icon.

Alas I have no suggestions as to what to do in Cardiff other than explore and enjoy yourself :) The pictures I have seen of Wales have been absolutely amazing. EXPLORE! (and then give us details) {G}

Love the icon.

Thanks! I found it @ girlyb_icons. She has a lot of awesome icons.

I'm sure I'll have plenty of pictures and things to post when I get back and of course will show them off :) 2 months and counting!

I have a friend from Cardiff. I'll e-mail her and ask her. I can have her contact you if you like or just relay what she says back to you. She's not on LJ, but she is on my facebook.

OOO! Yes, if you could ask her that would be great - I'd love to hear about any suggestions that she may have.

Well, I guess I should have read this reply first, huh? Since you just answered the question I asked in the other thread. I'll get on facebook later and suggest you to her as a friend and then you can gab directly.

I've been! I walked down to the Bay, but I'm guessing you'll be headed there anyway considering that's a focal point for Torchwood. LOL! I did a tour of Cardiff Castle, which is rather neat considering it's not as old as you might think it is! They actually shot a scene from season two's Torchwood at the top of the castle keep, if I'm not mistaken.

I'm headed over there next year, and I plan to visit Castell Coch (http://www.cadw.wales.gov.uk/default.asp?id=6&PlaceID=48) & Caer Philly Castle (http://www.cadw.wales.gov.uk/default.asp?id=6&PlaceID=39), which are both in the Cardiff area. I've been told they're very much worth the visit.

Cardiff Castle is already on the list. Castell Coch is too - if we can figure out how to use the public transportation routes out of Cardiff (as I don't think she'll be driving yet). Caer Philly Castle looks interesting and I don't think I saw that one - I'll add it to my list :) thanks!

I'm jealous that you'll be spending more than a week there :) Are you planning on staying in Cardiff for awhile when your there?

Take the train! It's much prettier and more pleasant than the bus. Much much much much much.

Jealous I am!

I think its going to come down to cost in the end - the train sites I initially found had tickets that were *way* more expensive than taking the Coach. I found one recently that has less expensive train tickets but we'll see what they cost when its closer to the time for me to leave for my trip.

Did you travel to Wales when you were over in the UK?

I totally understand. Still, honestly, if you can swing the train trip, do it. The views will be much more interesting than just driving along a highway. Also, in my experience, the train stations are more easily accessible and frequented by taxis than the bus depots.

I did not travel to Wales! I wanted to, badly, but somehow it just...didn't end up happening. I couldn't get my friends interested, and for some reason I didn't go alone that often. If I regret anything about my time abroad, it's that I didn't do more traveling solo.

lol! The more I hear people talk about the trains the more interesting it sounds :) We'll see what the cost is in a month or so. The only nice thing about the coach was that there is a direct one from Heathrow to Cardiff that doesn't require me to leave the airport, where as for the train I have to get to Paddington station and then find the train I need (and given that I frequent public transportation here in Chicago I can't imagine that I'd have a hard time figuring out how to find and use the Heathrow express to Paddington)

Sorry to hear you didn't do all the traveling that you wanted while you were abroad... you'll need to get Steve to take you back for a delayed honeymoon :)
