Pamela Geller is pure evil. I've met her personally, and she makes me ashamed to identify as a Israeli identified Jew.

She hates Islam. Plain and simple. Muslims could identify as Zionists, vote for Rick Perry and consider pork and beer Halal and she'd still hate them.

During the Park 51 project, I heard her shout abuse at Mrs. Talat Hamdani, whose son Mohammad died on 9-11. I will never forget her screaming Mrs. Hamdani was a jihadist and evil and Sharia.

Some people and I led Mrs. Hamdani away, because she was shaking and she asked me if I was Jewish. I nodded. "You know, every day, I say the Shahada and I remember that the people who murdered my son said that same prayer. They stole my son. They stole the name of the faith I love. They stole everything from me. How could she say this to me?"

So I'd truly ignore Geller. I don't doubt she has read the comics, but ISLAM=EVIL to her.

I plan to review the novel for an online zine.

:horrified: That is just... unspeakably cruel. That poor mother.

I've come to the conclusion that people like Geller are cowards. Plain and simple. People like her ridicule what they refuse to understand because it makes them feel safe in their prejudice and it doesn't hurt that there are others who share their view.

People with sense and a measure of compassion know not to hold an entire people accountable for the actions of a few. Look what happened to Asian-Americans after Pearl Harbor.

Please post your review when it's finished. I look forward to it!

Interesting. I definitely support both positive role models for Muslim kids and having more superheroes of "other" cultural backgrounds out there.

And The 99 manages both: the titular heroes represent a spectrum of variety within Islam, and a wide array of races, nationalities, and degrees of dress code (Batina the Hidden, who has yet to show up on the character page, will be fittingly be fighting crime in a burqa.)
