I got an invite for a pre-screening for
The Warrior's Way, formerly known as The Laundry Warrior.
I'd never even heard of this film before, but here's the description:
Yang (Jang Dong Gun) a member of a feared band of assassins becomes a renegade from his clan when he rescues an enemy’s baby from certain death. Forced to seek refuge from his own clan, Yang flees to the old America West where he encounters Lynne (Kate Bosworth) a fiery knife-thrower, whose playful charm warms his battle-numbed heart. Ron (Geoffrey Rush), with a wisdom that belies his status as the town drunk, warns Yang to keep moving. But when his new friends are threatened by the vicious Hell Riders lead by The Colonel (Danny Huston), Yang is forced to unsheathe his battle sword, knowing that the ring of its blade will reveal his location to his former clan. The ensuing fight rises to an epic crescendo with the arrival of this terrifying clan from the Far East.
It's written and directed by a guy named Sngmoo Lee. I can't find much on him, but it's his debut film and apparently he teaches Filmography at NYU. Originally, Zhang Ziyi was attached to be the romantic female lead (as "Lin"), but she's not listed anymore - Kate Bosworth is (as "Lynne" :).
To all this I say: what the hell? Has anyone heard of this movie? Potentially an Asian romantic lead in a Hollywood action film?
By the way, I can't make the screening - if you're near San Fernando Valley and can make it on Wednesday night, let me know and I'll pass the information along. It would be great if someone from the community could check this out for us.
