Thanks to your comments, the Los Angeles Times is finally taking notice of the casting controversy. Today, they even featured the comments about the controversy on their comments blog! 'The Last Airbender' is causing a casting commotion.

Okay article, but did the beginning bother anyone else?

The practice of casting actors who best reflect the material a movie or television show is based on has long been a thorn in the side of casting directors, filmmakers and fans alike. Go with the best actors available? Go with the actress who looks or has other attributes similar to the character she will portray?

I know that the article doesn't explicitly say anything to this effect, but the juxtaposition of those two sentences implies that the latter cannot be the former. It's the whole "they chose the most talented actors for the role!" argument all over again.

As a note, I love how one person said we're an angry minority and we still show up more on the page comments and we sound a lot less like angry fans then those arguing against us do.
