“Guess what!”

Eliot spares Jonas a glance before he goes back flipping over two steaks and a veggie burger. John looks up from his computer and it takes his eyes a second to focus on Jonas, but they do and he smiles. “What?”

“So I was talking to Hardison--”

“Always a bad idea,” Eliot puts in from the grill.

Jonas grins. “I like him.”

“You like everyone,” Eliot accuses.

Jonas lets John pull him down for a quick kiss before answering, “It’s more work to not like them.”

“It’s really not.”

He laughs and John laughs with him while Eliot glares. It’s easy and it’s comfortable and Jonas is once again glad that they asked him to join them. Eventually John pokes him in the side and says, “So what did Alec want?”

“Oh!” Jonas grins. “He’s going to let me do the weather tomorrow, on the six o’clock news!”

He watches as John and Eliot exchange looks. Eliot, at least, has the how do I explain this to an alien look. John’s is more like this is going to disappoint him.

John clears his throat. “Did he say how he was going to do that?”

Jonas shrugs. “He said he knew a guy who knew a guy.”

This time John’s look is closer to did you really fall for that?

“I see,” John mutters. “Well, cool.”

“Cool beans,” Jonas agrees.

“Damn it, Hardison!” Eliot yells. “Now you’re involving Jonas in your illegal schemes?”

Hardison sticks his head out of his office and frowns. “I’m what now?”

“Jonas said you were gonna let him do the six o’clock news.”

“Oh, yeah. That,” Hardison grins. “Parker and I were telling him about a couple of our past cases and I mentioned once that I was a weatherman--when we had that Irish mob case? You remember it, right? Anyway, he got all excited about it and asked a million questions, ‘cause, damn can that kid talk. So I said it’d be pretty easy to hack into the news feed so he could do the weather.”

“He works for the government, Hardison,” Eliot glares. “You can’t just put his face on the news--illegally--and expect someone not to notice.”

“Please, who even watches the news anymore, man?”

Eliot narrows his eyes. “If he gets in trouble over this--”

“He won’t.”

“--then I’m taking it out on you,” Eliot threatens.

“It’s just the weather, man. Look, I’ll even get him to say something like the other guy is out sick and Jonas is covering for him. No one will know.”

“They better not.”

“They won’t!”

John watches as Jonas helps Hardison set up the green screen in the back ground. Jonas is wearing one of John’s button-up shirts and a nice pair of pants. He’s bouncing with energy and chatting away with Hardison about how meteorology works and the prediction of weather forecasts and everything else that John doesn’t really care about but that he’d listen to Jonas ramble on about all day.

“Hey,” Eliot says behind him. He brushes his hand against John’s and stands too close to be anything but more than a friend. “He looks like a kid in a candy shop.”

“Hasn’t shut up about this all day,” John complains. They both know he doesn’t really mind.

“Should we be helping them set up?” John asks.

“It’s Hardison’s dumb idea, he can do it himself.”

John presses a kiss to Eliot’s jaw. “Yeah, but he’s doing it for Jonas.”

“I think they’re okay,” Eliot tells him. “How was work?”

“Boring. You?”

Eliot shrugs. “Got to punch a few people.”

“So much more exciting than mine?”

“Only a little,” Eliot grins.

Jonas bounces over to them, giving them both a quick kiss that John doesn’t have time to return, much less to react to. “We’re going to rehearse. Are you staying?”

“Me or Eliot?” John asks.

“Both of you.”

“Yeah, we’ll stay,” Eliot says.

“Can’t miss your debut as a weatherman,” John laughs.

Jonas leans in close between them and says, “I’m a little bit nervous.”

Eliot snakes a hand around his waist and pulls him in close. “Don’t be, you’ll do fine.”

Jonas chews on his bottom lip for a moment before he nods. “Thanks.”

“Welcome,” Eliot returns. He pulls Jonas in for a longer kiss this time. “Go break a leg.”

Jonas beams and John offers him a wink before he heads back over to Hardison.

“I’m magic,” Jonas whispers.

Eliot groans and smacks Jonas on the chest. “We heard you the first ten times.”

“Twelve,” John corrects sleepily.

“Twelve, then,” Eliot acknowledges. “But now it’s time to sleep.”

“But I’m seriously magic.”

“You used science,” John argues. “Doesn’t that mean it isn’t magic.”

“Science can be magical.”

“Not from where I’m sitting,” Eliot mutters. He flicks Jonas’s ribs and says, “Sleep or go be magical in the living room.”

“Will you still love me if I become a wizard?” Jonas asks wistfully.

“Not if you try to take over the world by giving people really ugly tattoos and ditching parts of your soul,” John says.

“I’m way cooler than Harry Potter.”

“John, stop encouraging him,” Eliot groans.

John moves a little and lips are pressed up against Eliot’s shoulder. “Sorry.”

They fall silent and Eliot’s almost asleep when he hears Jonas whisper again. “I’m magic.” This time he just smiles and tightens his arm around the other man, letting Jonas curl into him. “Magic.”
