I am Technology's Bitch, The Sequel

Grrr. The screen on my beloved, apple-green Dell laptop is on the fritz. Sigh, no fic-writing in bed for the foreseeable. Luckily, I have a crappy old Gateway monitor (are those people still in business?). I wonder if the wee hdtv in my kitchen is compatible...would much rather use that...

Despite prior experience*, the lovely and efficient tech ( Read more... )

My Gateway monitor died two days ago. We had an old, old, old OLD screen downstairs in the basement and I got it. My dad was gleeful in telling mom he always knew it would come in handy someday.

This bad boy is giant and heavy but it works so I'm happy. :-D

Silver lining: since the debacle in September resulted in all-new motherboard, hard drive and memory, and now this new display, my nearly 3-yr old pc will be virtually brand new!

Oooh, aren't I glad that in Germany the warranty is 24 months on any electronics articles by law. But it has happened to me that something broke just a week after the warranty expired. Sometimes, if you're lucky, they will show some goodwill and fix it for free. But sometimes they'll just tell you: Tough luck ( ... )

Hee! The inappropriate CI relationship quote is on the list, for obvious reasons...

Yep, I've got several HDMI cables lying around (we recently upgraded all our tv's - early Christmas present), so I had an extra, thankfully. Am using it right now and you're right that the resolution is a bit strange. But it'll do until the tech support guy comes.

Upgrading TVs = awesome sauce. I bought a 42" last spring (that's 2010), and I'm still in love with it. At first I thought it was huge, but it's kinda sad that already after three weeks, I started thinking, hm, it could be even bigger. Watching Matt on it in high definition certainly made it worth the big bucks I spent on it (and the Blu-ray player and the Dolby system). :-D

Sigh. Matt in HD = awesome.

I am still amazed at the picture of the HDTV I have. I don't want to use the words "picture quality" because it's something else entirely. The image is so sharply rendered, it's almost 3D. It's like the people are in the room, or more importantly, that I'm in the room with them. I am very glad my sis got a fat bonus this summer :)

On another note, thanks to the HDMI cable hookup, the sound is now running through the wee tv instead of my pc, and the speakers are pretty good. So, yay, kinda.

Quote quotes (I'm too lazy to look em up exactly)

Hard Sell:

Neal: Peter, I'm flattered. You think I can keep up with these guys?
Peter: Give me a break, you could sell light switches to the Amish.

And one of my favorite scenes is from Vital Signs, the Jimmy Burger story, all the way through when Jones brings some files to Neal.

Hope your laptop gets fixed soon. Good luck with your ficlet; I'm sure you'll come up with something fabulous.

And you now have a new twitter follower :)

Happy New Year, BB!

And happy almost completely new computer!

I am going to be SOOOOOOOO blue when your twelve days fest ends. Which is all the more reason to open the promptfest in early January - once I finish the monster fic that has eaten my life.

Am using my Diana icon for no good reason other than I feel like it.

Don't be blue - your Peter!whump fight club thing is probably up next, unless I am waylaid by plot bunnies.

Don't talk to me about being waylaid by those damn story-breeding lagomorphs. I'm desperately trying to finish the EPIC, and now I have Peter-sans-Elizabeth on my brain, as well as Dragons and Unicorns.

Maybe I should take a short break and write something else. It's not like I haven't made progress (15k since Christmas eve).
