Title:The Wicked Lies We Tell, Part 2 Rating: NC-17 Characters/Pairings: Neal/Peter Spoilers: None Content Notice: Themes of addiction Word Count: 11,300 Summary: Peter can’t live without Neal.
One of the things I love about Peter/Neal is the roles that they play with/for each other. Generally, this means Neal gets in trouble, usually because he is hiding something and Peter saves the day, usually with a little bit of help from Neal.
The way you have twisted that here is really compelling. Peter gets in trouble, because surprise surprise he's hiding something and Neal has to do a literal white (light) knight.
I haven't read the other Empathia stories (though clearly I'm going to have to do so now) but I loved this. Your sick!Peter was excellent, and I love Neal saving the day but then not being able to step away.
Wow. Just wow. This story was good, but when the "dream sequence" with the Empathia started up it became masterful. Just brilliant, and the tense change was PERFECT to show us something strange was going on. I also loved that Neal didn't sever the bond. I was afraid he would, and my heart broke a little--but I loved that he didn't because that's so Neal. He's so selfish and he would totally not sever the bond. I get that he did it for Peter, too, but I like to think the root was his own conman/theif selfishness. :) Thanks for writing!
EXACTLY! Though, I choose to believe he was merely weak and not selfish, his motives were not wholly selfLESS, if you KWIM. On the other hand, I do think severing the bond and leaving would have devastated Peter, so he was thinking of both of them.
Waiting till the weekend to read, ugh. But definitely worth it. It fit the story canon perfectly. I can hope that both of you write more in this series.

It'd be interesting to see where they are a few years later - are they comfortable in their bond, or starting to feel its limitations.
And yes - you should read the originals; I am not sure I touched on their tone at all successfully, but I tried my best.
