Strange things are a foot at the Circle K

I just had a subcontractor come into the office to pick up a payment. No big deal. He starts telling me how he needs to get a new secretary. One who does more than answer the phones and schedule appointments. One who is younger. I said nothing. I have no idea about his "secretary" so I can't comment on her abilities. I get up to get ( Read more... )

my first year with the gov't, my mom asks me "so, what did your boss get you for secretary's day?"

me - "um, i'm not a secretary"

"administrative assistants' day, then" she says in a haughty tone.

me - "i'm not one of THOSE either, i'm a fucking technician. we don't get anything but a hard time, and we get that every day."

*rolls eyes*

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who finds "secretary" derogotary. It is like people just lump any women in the office into that totally generic category whether it has anything to do with her job or not. ARRGH!

Your job sounds very similar to accounting. With out accounting business just wouldn't work, we are a very essential cog. However we are the cog that nobody acknowledges or respects. It totally sucks. We even have an Accountants Day, believe it or not. In my almost 10 years of accounting, I have yet to have a supervisor give me any sort of special recogintion on AD.

I do love your new icon too :)

How do you know he wasn't hitting on you *and* trying to get you to come work for him? I mean, that's what it sounded like when he said he wanted a younger secratery who'd 'do more'. Oh, and if you run into him again? Please make him less of a man in some fasion. It's guys like that what give the rest of us a bad name. What an asshole.

I'm sure he was doing both. It was very, very icky. He then proceeded to tell me how he is a single father of three, blah, blah, blah. He is a fairly new sub and I've been creeped out around him ever since he started coming in here.

I will probably be running into him again as he made a point of saying I would definitely see him again before my last day in 3 weeks. I'll have to come up with creative ways to belittle his semi-manhood.

Oh, and he doesn't give you all a bad name. I can think of 3 very specific "males" who are fem enough to not be considered "men", I even married one of them. I like femiemen the best anyhoo. They seem to really listen when I talk. Teehee.

But that's not just a matter of fem or not, that's plain skeezy. Skeezy makes all men look bad. There are 'beer and football' sorts of guys who would be right with me on the kicking this guys balls so hard they'd get lodged inside his skull. Jen's brother, for a start. He's a very all american, good ol' boy in many ways, but he manages to be that, and a really good guy anyway.
