I'm stressed again!

I just want to throw my finger up at the world right now. This weekend's plans are all fubarred. I'm getting worried about the housing situation in Portland, again. Now I call the stupid temp agency people and in order to work through them I need to take tests. Otay, so my degree means what? My 10 years of work experience means what? My ( Read more... )

Hon just keep applying through Monster too.
Temp agencies are good, but not always the best way to go.

If you know of any companies you want to work for, go directly to their corporate web site too and apply.

I am sorry things are so poopy right now.

**hugs**

Um, how rigid are these apartment places? Can't we just tell them we had great jobs, have four months of rent in the bank, enough credit to buy a new car on cards, and are looking?

A tiered move, however, could be made. Not comfortably I'm sure, but possibly. I'm pretty confident in my resume blitz though.

I love you so much. If you need to curl up into a little ball of ignoring the world, you have my arms to do so in.

I had a job before I moved out here, but I wasn't starting until a month after we arrived. What we did with Portland Rental Service was lie. I had my brother in law pretend to be Steve's employer and my current employer pretend to be the corporate office. It worked and we got the apartment settled before we left Chicago. I think that it can work for you too, just let me know if you want me to pretend to be your boss at my company and I will say that I have hired you. I do hiring anyways, so it wouldn't be a big deal at all.

As for the temp agency route... Steve went through them and took the tests. It was one day of testing and he had a call in 2 days. He took a temporary job and it became permanent in two weeks. He now has a great job and I highly recommend Adecco.

Keep trying the old fashioned way (Monster, calling; etc) and make sure that you have enough to pay for 2 months living expenses. You will not have a problem getting a job if you are willing to fudge the truth on it.

Kelly, the tests are designed so that they can quickly figure out exactly what you can do and find you jobs that are the best match.

Look at it from the agency's point of view, a lot of people lie about what they can do, and if the agency sent those people for a job and they can't perform, it makes the agency look bad and the companies won't want to use them again. I know that doesn't apply to you, but unfortunately the few scummy people out there tend to complicate things for the rest of us. Verifying your skills means the agency can send you for better jobs confident that you will be a good match for them.
