So, thinking about buying a fountain pen The problem with this type of purchase is that I know there is a huge culture of fountain pens and lots of information about them and blah blah blah fanbase blah blah and I have to fight with my urge to ALREADY KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT IT before I purchase it versus the fact that I know that I won't really have ( Read more... )

I've never understood pigeonholes. It seems like you'd have to have very well-behaved pigeons.

Buy a crap pen first - cheap but serviceable. Then you can spend the real amount once you know what you are really looking for.

That's why I'm looking on ebay. I want one that is pretty, and they have a nice one for about twenty bucks.

Oh yeah... and about fountain pens...from my personal experience v. important you clean the reservoir v. well before you put it away (or you will end up with dried ink in it that is a pain or impossible to clean). Store it pointy end up or on it's side but never point down (pointy side down and you are just asking for trouble). And if you're not planning to use it for a while it's also a good idea to take out the cartridge and clean out the whole tube thing (I have a pens that use plastic cartridges that you puncture with the tube so I take off the cartridge, rinse out the pen completely, let it dry fully and then replace the cartridge and store it point up).
