Bedding

I have just recently got a bun and he has been doing great so far. Great with his litter, eating properly and enjoys his run time. My only problem is his cage liner/bedding. I'm currently using the carefresh for the bedding and Yesterday's news (the smaller version) for the litter but he doesn't seem to like the bedding. He's kicked it all out from ( Read more... )

so cute!
you could use a timothy matt, or you could try just plain newspaper on the bottom. the bunny will rearrange the paper and dig in it, but it's worth a try. don't use the ads, just the paper. the ads don't always use non-toxic ink, but the actual newspaper does.

I wasn't sure with the newspaper because of the ink in general, but it's worth a try. (Definitely cheaper to try too :D) I didn't know that about the ads! I'll keep that in mind for in the future.

I use Feline Pine. Original only. I used to use Carefresh but I like FP better. The pellets disintegrate when the bunny pees, so it's much easier to clean.

He's good with his litter, he only pees in his litter box so it's easy to clean. It's the cage bedding that's an issue, not the litter or his litter habits :P

Oooooh, I see. When I had a cage my bunny used to play with the Carefresh. Then I discovered x-pens and refuse to use a cage anymore since it offers more space and freedom.

I agree with the cage thing, but until I move, it'll have to do :P I let him run when I am home though but I plan on something bigger once I have the room.

He doesn't play with it but it gets in fur like crazy as well which is part of why I'm looking for an alternative.

Do you have a litter box for him? I personally have a litter box for my bunny and the rest of his cage has a towel laid down and a small dog bed for him to lay on.

Yep! He's great with using the litterbox, just the bedding is the problem. I might try a towel for the bottom as well.

I've had really good luck with jute rugs in the bottom of rabbit cages. You need to make sure it's 100% jute or other grasses, but my bunnies seem to love them.

I would try a timothy mat of a piece of fleece. Fleece is great because it doesn't string, so you don't have to worry about him ingesting any hazardous string like with other materials. Just grab a fleece blanket or buy some from the fabric store.
