1. Depends on how you think about the word exist; although, if he's being talked about as an idea, well, you can't kill an idea so he's still alive. So I'd say he exists.

1. Well yeah, but the fact that people still talk about him regardless of all that means that in people's thoughts, he's still alive in some way. Maybe he wasn't ideal, but he's remembered.
