Me too. I started putting on weight in high school (I was never really skinny anyway, or at least I didn't think I was), and I always thought it would somehow magically go away. I also told myself I never "worked out", but at the time I was playing sports 6 days a week. Then in college I quit sports and started eating a lot more. I definitely rewarded myself with food, and I also did a lot of eating while bored ( ... )

My mom has been wonderful too. Some day I'll post some of the reasons behind my weight gain. Yeah, a lot of it was just getting lazy as I got older, but there were some other things I had/still am having to work through as well.

Wait. Since you're losing bit by bit, you may not be able to notice much after 10, 20, 30, pounds, but when you meet with people who haven't seen you in a while THEY will notice for sure. And then all of a sudden, you'll be way too small for your current clothes, and you get to go shopping!

SO true that it's hard to tell if you see someone daily! Whenever I go home I'm apparently the only person who ever comments on my friends' weight, since I rarely see them. And they're the only ones who can tell how much my weight has flucuated.

Yay. I'm proud of you. I have the same all-or-nothing issues, so, like you, I'm trying to do things one at a time, without triggering any of my current/former eating disorders (of which there are 3, because I'm nuts).

I'm proud of YOU. You're in a high-stress environment and have already overcome so much.

One of my next steps is to get exercise equipment at home, like you do, so I have even less excuse for not working out.

Aw, thanks. Yeah, having it at home helps. Although now I'm coveting an additional piece of equipment. Maybe you could get videos? I totally got sucked into the billy blanks boot camp video infomercial this morning, and they looked o.k.

Oh, I have come this close to caving on those boot camp video infomercials!

No, I really want a machine, so I can do it while I watch television/movies! That way, I don't feel like I need to cut down on the time spent, 'cause it's productive, see?

How many machines do you have?

Congratulations on everything! It sounds really hard. I should work on losing weight considering my size but I am the laziest person in the world and I use food for comfort, which is not a good combination. Especially now when I'm all "I have no friends I hate my school, I must EAT!" Hopefully at some point I'll have the resolve you do and start working on it.

It is hard, mostly because I have to remember and say "no" all the time.

I completely sympathize with the comfort eating. My two encouragements to you would be 1) try to establish non-food things you enjoy as rewards (One idea: use the money you would spend on snacks or eating out and splurge on something you really want.)
2) try to maintain/build muscle tone.

I'm not trying to tell you what to do, 'cause obviously I messed up plenty myself. But, if you can keep those two things in mind, even a little bit, it will put you worlds ahead when you're ready/able to get down to business.
