Update on what's been going on

My mom met with the pulmonologist today. (He had some cancellations, and so we were able to move up the appointment instead of waiting another two and a half weeks)

He did a lot of different tests and said that he sees ABSOLUTELY NO SIGN of any kind of permanent damage or indication of cancer or something truly ( Read more... )

good day, real life, day in the life, exercise, woo! hoo!, part of my journey, busy, family, health issues

I know! It was great news, everything we prayed for.

And, well, turns out the house probably actually needs MORE work than we thought, but at least we don't have to do it in a particular order and be further delayed fixing this particular problem.

I am actually not sleeping all that much, generally 4 or 5 hours at a time, with an occasional longer spell. But it's a good thing, really. I'm fully rested when I wake, so I just get up then and move on with everything I'm doing.

Since I'm home alone, I'm kinda living off my own schedule, so it's not a problem at all.

That is EXCELLENT news about your mother! When are you expecting to get the blood results back?

You seem to be doing very well right now. Keep up the good work!

We got the results back before the holiday, actually. Completely clear. Almost no damage at all and nothing permanant or cancerous. (The doctor said it looked like it was even less than it seemed on the original x-rays!)

Thanks for the encouragement! I am *SO* sore right now!

Yay for the good news about your mom and your house. I should clean my apartment sometime soon, but I think I will enjoy your cleaning vicariously instead.

Good for you getting moving again. I have my next half-marathon on Aug 3, so I am running but not every day. What do you do for cardio?

I am happy to be your virtual housecleaner! FYI, tomorrow afternoon I'm going to probably empty out the freezers and clean and sort all the ...whatever that's accumulated in there.

Yeah, I've really jumped into the exercise full-tilt. From nothing at all for over a year to climbing on the Gazelle two weeks ago and then a couple days later starting DAILY 40/50-minute sessions.

I'm not doing very extensive cardio yet. I sometimes walk the dog, but mostly I climb on our Gazelle. Low-impact which is good because I have a strong tendancy for shin splints.

Mostly I'm just trying to get moving again, regularly and raise my heartbeat and get my metabolism going.

I've done six hours of activity just in the first five days of July! (not counting the strength training I'm trying to work in every other day)

And, BOY! Am I *sore*!!!

Oooh my refrigerator will love you.

It's good that you're starting low impact and being careful to ramp up a bit. There's no point in doing too much and then getting stuck being inactive again because of an injury. Good for you for getting stuff done, and enjoy the muscle soreness that comes from moving again.

The TV / treadmill combo seems really smart - it times your workouts and gives you something else to concentrate on. It's interesting because at this point I find that the days my mind is wandering my runs go by quickly enough, but I am actually a little bit slower than the days I stay more in my body and just sing along to my ipod. Then again I am working on speed.

FYI, my current task?

Emptying all the cabinets in the kitchen of any food items/dishes/food preperation items/etc so I can bug bomb the place.

I'm way late to the party, but that's fantastic news about your mom!

Your cleaning sounds so THOROUGH. Like really impressively so.

Well, it's a good thing I did, because the engineer literally went EVERYWHERE.

The only places he didn't wind up looking were - inside/behind the fridge, under the sink (or in the kitchen cabinets), in the master bathroom, and most of the closets.

That's it.

He went up in the attic, out in the garage, behind the piano, even looked in MY closet! (which, fortunately, was cleaner than it has been in about 3 years thanks to the cleaning I did all weekend.)
