I was thinking VA too because West Virginia was formed due to the Civil War.

3. That's what I always thought, too. But my brother said this ---- causes the brownish-yellow default color in your waste, and the intensity of the shade varies based on how much water/whatever dilutes it.

That's interesting you call it the War Between the States since I grew up in Oklahoma too and I've always called it The Civil War. Let's see:

1) Maryland?
2) Coffee
3) the less water you drink, the yellower your pee because the kidney needs the moisture to process out the minerals in things we drink. More water, clearer pee! I can't remember why poo is poo colored though. Hmm...

Oh, I generally refer to it as The Civil War, too. (I deliberately chose to use the alternate name - which I am also very familiar with from living in Atlanta for close to ten years - because lots of countries have civil wars and lj is an international community )

Of course, my very Southern grandfather used to refer to it as (read in your best Foghorn Leghorn-esgue baritone) "The Wahr of Nawthan Ahgresshon"

3. Yes, the color is diluted by the amount of water you drink and chemicals can alter it as well, but the default brownish-yellow color comes from something specific.

Yeah, that's what was so surprising to me. It was NOT one of the Confederate states.
