Maybe watching it with rance helped! We were laughing at some of the lines outloud. Still I felt tension while watching it, and I got involved with the plot. I kept waiting for everyone to die! Mitchum was hard to see as a good guy. He's too intense and sloe-eyed. Wright almost managed to make her I hate-him-and-want-to-kill-him-but-I-love-him scene almost believable. For a western noir, this film was awfully melodramatic. The cinematography was gorgeous, and Judith Anderson always steals scenes. I was entertained enough.
