The water thing is multifaceted. I needed to drink more water and far less diet soda (it may have no calories but it's all chemicals), and quite a bit of literature says that water promotes weight loss (or dehydration hinders is). Whether that's true or not, drinking the recommended amount of water can't hurt. Furthermore, it gives me a small, constant thing that I can focus on, particularly at work. I can't suddenly drop and do pushups at work if I'm feeling bad about myself, but I can drink water. I may still hate the way I can feel my flesh, but I can drink water. It's proactive, and it makes me feel better about myself.
Yeah, weekly. After trying several different days I ended up with Friday mornings. That seems to be the most stable overall, probably because there's less variation in what I do during the week than on weekends.
Shakati's chart is an enormous help. Like he says, this is forever, and it's really rewarding to look a year and two years back and see the line creep down :-). And useful to look back six months and see that in that time it isn't down :-(, and it's time to get focused again.
Is there any way you can exercise and read at the same time? One of the nicest things about our exercise bike is that I get to feel virtuous while I ignore meals and laundry and work and immerse myself in whatever book I'm currently caught up in :-).
