Rudeness is the weak man's imitation of strength

Hadn't heard that. Perfect, it is.

women reeking of Eau d'entitlement

Quite. You might remember this, which is told from another perspective here.

"Oh-excuse me," I said.

Heheheh…are you secretly Canadian? ("Oh! Sorry!" is Canadian for "Well, bless yer heart!", which is Southern for "Good for you!" which is Northern for "Fuck you".)

I wasn't able to open the first link, but do remember an incident at the post office in which you came to the rescue of (I think) a customer being horrible to a clerk. Needless to say, I love such stories.

This morning at Trader Joe's, I said 'Excuse me' as I passed in front of a guy in one of the aisles, and he seemed shocked and grateful.

I am definitely a secret Canadian! I also think passive aggression has its uses when applied selectively.

Did you check out the paper produce bags? I guess plastic came into its own in the Sixties.

I don't smoke anymore, but ashtrays alongside the grocery belt seem very civilized to me, in a perverse sort of way.

Excellent point. I swear, if tobacco cigarettes weren't so harmful, I'd be a chain smoker. For me it's all about the theater, not the nicotine. E-cigs may lack the same hazards, but they also lack the same mystique.

Have you heard of a book called Cigarettes Are Sublime? Perhaps you've read it. It was a tad too self-consciously intellectual for me, and I had to quit it after a few chapters, but the author makes some very interesting points.
