i knew you would appreciate it. i actually almost didn't post this, because i thought it was kind of ridiculous, then i thought of you and went for it.
it's funny that you mention that poem - i had a seminar on modernism, and i was sitting there thinking, "this is all such bullshit," especially william carlos williams. then i read that poem and just sort of "got it." all of it.
Plums are one of my most favorite fruit. I love that ting of tartness you get when you bite into the skin and then the giant burst of sweetness from the flesh. I absolutely love when they are so ripe that the juice is literally falling down your face, it's like one giant delicious explosion!
i was sitting here, slurping and making these "mmmm" sounds by myself, to myself, and i almost felt guilty or ashamed or something. like i was eating this forbidden fruit that was too exotic and delicious for humans, and it was a mistake that it landed in my mittens.
and have you had rose tea? i came to the realization recently that floral teas are my favorites.
You should have your kids at school write something like this. They have to describe their favorite fruit with no less than x-number of adjectives and without saying the name of the food.
you know, people talk smack about NJ so much, but i have never had fruits or veg as delicious as those from my home state!
if you like sweet white corn, NJ corn would blow your MIND this summer. i ate an ear of corn the other night at my mom's house and almost cried when i saw that she didn't have any more.

Plums are the best. Farmer's market plums are even better.
I never had any trouble understanding the poem "This is just to say" by William Carlos Williams
