Title: The Happiest Day of the Year Rating: PG Summary: Arthur's birthday party. Notes: Descriptions of party-related things are taken from the Pooh Party Book.
omg, I just want to pick up Arthur, wrap him up and snuggle him. Oh god, I feel legitimatly aweful for poor baby Arthur. You made me feel real things hun! ;-; Can we do a redo and threaten all of the other kids to go to his party? Because Arthur deserves all of the parties with lots of people... him and his perfectly polished shoes.
I think I'm rambling... I'll stop now. This was lovely dove, right down to Arthur's description. God... his mother too! She's exactly like I imagined Arthur's mother to be! Poor poor baby Arthur.
After distributing the invitations, Arthur made a point of going around to every child, demanding that they all attend his birthday party.
And then everyone came and Arthur was happy.
The end
I'm glad you liked it, especially Arthur's mother. I wasn't sure if I got her personality down the way I wanted, so it's nice to hear that she fit your mental image!
That makes things a little better, but in a sick and twisted way I am glad that you showed no one showing up to Arthur's birthday and had him all sad. It shows that not everyone has a perfect birthday. Amazing job hun.
I loved Arthur's mother: she was a perfect blend of stoic and perfection, but then she DID have a warm side, short as its appearance may have been. You did a wonderful job on creating her in this.
See, that's why I wanted to write it. Having had similar experiences with childhood birthdays, I thought 'this has to be a normal thing, right?' and then this.
;-; That's exactly how I wanted her to come across. She's not a robot, and I feel like Arthur would model himself after her... but in a good way, if that makes sense.
God so heartbreaking, more so because things like this are happening everyday to some kids. The excitement and hope slowly melting into disappointment and rejection.
This whole story was pretty much inspired by that party book, because while I'm sure many a child had the best birthday party of their life while using that book as guidance, it just seems like such a sad little book...
