~Thirty-Eighth Spectacle~

Haha... I admit that I'm curious, and now seems as good of time as any to pose this question. ♥

Given the option to return to your respective homes, would you?
Now, this might some obvious, right? But let us add a few conditions~

First -- those that have died (outside Luceti) will return to being dead ( Read more... )

Your first condition took me out of the running. But even if I could, I don't think I'd go back.

Even if the machines or whatever is bringing people here were still active, wouldn't they be able to send people back, too?

Yes. Truthfully, I can't think of a more sensible way for them to do it. It's possible for them to have up-to-date copies of all our minds, like ... what do you people call it? Data streams, transmitted somehow to their facilities, constantly recording and updating in relation to our own experiences. Perhaps they've done more than give us wings and these tattoos. And when one of us dies, perhaps it's merely a shell that dies, and they simply transfer that data to the new copy. That also seems to make more sense to me, especially considering the fact that they leave the bodies for at least a day before they retrieve it, allowing the process of decay to start ... which truly doesn't make sense if they're intending on reviving the same body. Perhaps they merely collect the remains for disposal reasons.

Your theory there seems what might be closest to the likely truth, though I would change it in that the wings are receptors, taking in an omnipotent signal to our own "data links." It would be tedious to re-upload things every time.

...which would explain why we 'die' upon losing those wings, and why losing one causes so much trouble.

Precisely. The one thing which doesn't make sense then is why there is blood in them. I mean, the pain related to them makes sense -- they effectively replace one's central nervous system... but the need for there to be that much blood in them seems... excessive.

Perhaps the Malnosso liked the idea to discourage removal~

Unfortunately, this knowledge, whether it's the truth of the situation or not, does little for us in the long run except give us new reason to protect these ... devices.

Oh, I wouldn't discount the power of this speculation so easily.

Well, hopefully it'll be good for something, someday.
