you saw him for the first time. he was just a lost soul sitting on a stool, thoughtful and brooding. his hand grasped a stick of cotton candy colored like the sky, and his face displayed ineffable beauty. he was a brunet Narcissus, because you favored that God over Adonis. he was comely, he was perfect, he was filled with felicity - he was the first thing on planet earth that made you rake your brain for the prettiest & pleasant adjectives just to be able to describe something that exists. he was the first one to give you unreachable hope.
today, you fell so hard for him - good thing you have wings.
he’s still there. it’s been approximately one hundred twenty hours, eighteen minutes, twenty seven seconds and he’s always in that same stool. and you’re always up on the crabapple tree because you love its color - more than the white glow of your wings or the golden shine of your hair - and because you love to see how a simple touch of your hand on its leaves help it sustain life. but you love him the most, and you start to wish to be reincarnated as the cotton candy he’s holding - so that he’ll never let you go. because he cant. when his last breath and last heart beat came, he was holding that piece of sugary confection. you think that the way of crossing over to the spirit world is just plain weird - maybe because of how you can’t remember your past life or maybe because all you can muster through your memories is that your name is Kibum. you shift to a new position in grace, and he looks up ahead.
he stares at you.
you blink at him, wondering if you’re actually visible to him or if he’s just fascinated by the leaves of the tree which are tainted pink.
can you see me? you give it a try.
he nods and gives you summery smile to go along with the season. i thought you were just an illusion. he spoke with a mellifluous voice. you are the most bright thing i’ve ever seen in my whole existence.
thanks, soul. you smile at the compliment.
Jonghyun. he corrects your way of addressing him.
Kibum.
today, you were not ethereal to him anymore.
you are waiting for him to turn into glowing particles; because, as far as you have seen, that’s what happens to every soul. you ask him.
i don’t know. he answers vaguely. it`s either i can’t let go or i`m waiting for something.
you stood up on the tree trunk, bare foot on wood, feather-light and almost weightless. your wings spread out; a few of the glowing paper white feathers fall off - slowly drifting with the wind, becoming evanescent. you take a step forward, right foot hovering on thin air.
his eyes portrayed astonishment, his attention centered on you.
you let yourself fall, wings in a desultory flutter. you walk over to him, feeling the blades of the opulent grass tickle your toes. the rose bush near the walls of the kiosk brightens up and blooms as your hand accidentally gives it a gentle caress.
he looks at you; waiting, expecting you to do something miraculous or something close to that.
your hand meets the cotton candy - the material object that bounds him on earth, you figured. the texture interests you for a moment and with a simple tug, his fingers swiftly released the dulcet treat.
well, that wasn’t so hard after all.
confused, he looks at you. i can go now?
you nod with a gentle curve on your lips.
today, you have to let go.
and he’s still there. bewildered, you inquire to him.
i’m still waiting, Kibum. i can’t go just yet. he stares into space, expressionless. or maybe he just likes to intake the view of downtown.
today, not much was said as you thought about a few things.
you come across an epiphany. and remembered how destiny was defined. it all came crashing down. Jonghyun. you say, almost inaudible.
he looks at you as you walk towards him.
you sit down, eyes taking in his glamour to store in your memory. i finally found you.
he smiles as if he’s known it all along. i’ve waited long enough.
you blink at him. you are baffled, but somehow, you also understand the situation with crisp clearness.
he leans forward, and closes the space between your lips. oh, and have i told you that i love you?
today, your wings crumble into an ash that shines of silver, all because of a stunning lost soul at a cotton candy kiosk who claims to be your soul mate that took almost an eternity to find you.
