So everyone and their mother has read the book.

We’ve finally arrived at our destination (Bergen, Norway) and I’m lucid enough to jot down my thoughts on DH. I’m also dying to read what other people make of it, but now I’m too exhausted to do so. Spoilers ahead.

I agree with nearly everything. Good God, that is kind of weird. As in, I find myself muttering a string of nonsensible, tumbled together "Yes!" The only difference (and really, this is the only one) is, I really actively disliked stupid, confused, lame, and immature Remus-who-wants-to-shirk-his-responsibilities-and-jump-ship.

Otherwise. Ew - Ginny. What has JKR done with her this time? The poor girl. There was so much potential there, to be someone suitable for Harry, to be someone who could shine in her own right. And she was reduced to this nasty, possessive, wholly insensitive chit who doesn't understand Harry or his situation at all. It's infuriating. And Kreacher! And Dobby! Oh I laughed and I sobbed. And Bellatrix/Voldemort should gain a good following:

"My Lord... My Lord..."

It was Bellatrix's voice, and she spoke as if to a lover. (p. 724, Am. ed.)

That provoked a "What else is new" reaction.

And of course Snape. A literary character such as I have never seen before. Even with his humiliating, depressing, ( ... )

Hey, thanks! Great minds think alike.

Frankly speaking, I've never given Remus's characterization much thought, so perhaps that's why it didn't strike me as OOC. For me Remus = the average, scared-shitless immature kind of guy, whose all friends are dead, so he's terrified of any commitment, 'couse for him commitments=loss. And that's also why he's never bonded with Harry that much (like Sirius did).

And re: Vol/Bella
'No higher pleasure,' repeated Voldemort, his head tilted a little to one side (OMG, OotP movie!Voldemort) as he considered Bellatrix. 'That means a great deal, Bellatrix, from you.' (p. 16, Bloomsbury adult ed.)
Ah, the innuendo! He likes to see her squirm...
