Summary: Peter storms into the lab late that night, and Astrid soothes his anger.
The door screamed open and Astrid jumped as an angry force slammed it shut. She looked up from her work and saw Peter Bishop storming into the lab late that night, when he had left with Walter not hours ago.
“Hey,” she said, though she was taken aback by the enraged expression on his face. She jumped up concerned. “What’s wrong?”
“It’s Walter. He… forgot something.” His voice trailed off as he turned his back toward her.
This wasn’t Peter’s usual anger. There was something else bothering him, something that wasn’t as trite as forgetting an object in the lab. However, Peter’s demeanor showed that he wasn’t in the mood for sharing, and thus Astrid became just another piece of furniture in the lab.
“Do you need any help…?”
“No!” he said, slamming something on a metal table. It made a loud echo in the lab, and Astrid froze. She stared at him for a moment, and when she was about to slink away, Peter stopped her.
“Wait,” he said with a sigh. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to yell at you.”
“It’s okay,” she murmured coldly, going back to her desk. She’d rather not get involved in this Bishop family dispute, though she was still concerned. Still, Peter’s attitude miffed her, and she’d rather fade into the background than take the brunt of his bad attitude.
“You’re not the one who yelled at Walter. I shouldn’t be taking this out on you,” he said, and suddenly Astrid felt his hand tug at her arm. “Hey Astrid, I’m sorry, okay.”
Slowly, she turned around and met his eyes. “What happened to Walter?” His hand stayed on her arm, and once in awhile, she glanced at it.
“Olivia…she confronted him about the Cortexiphan. He’s really upset,” Peter said as his attention faded away from her eyes. He rubbed his temple and groaned. “We’re not going to get any sleep tonight. I thought if I’d come and get some of his notes, at least he’d have something to do…”
Astrid nodded, and Peter looked at her with a thoughtful expression. She scrunched her brow in concentration, and then turned to him when an idea struck her. “Hey, would he like some Berry Boo? I can get some and stop by on my way home.”
Peter smiled; it was the first smile she’d seen since he stormed into the lab. “You don’t have to. I can do it. It’s my family problem.” He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. “I feel bad enough our problems are running into the personal lives of everyone else, especially yours.”
Astrid shrugged. “It’s alright.” She put her hand on Peter’s. “While I’m here, you and Dr. Bishop are my family.”
Her words must have stunned him, but he was still smiling. She tugged on his arm. “Are you coming? We have Berry Boo to stock up on.” He chuckled at her, and she felt relieved that she was able to calm him down.
He followed her step, and she locked up the lab. Peter came close to her side, and she turned and said, “We better get this party started. Knowing how much sugar is in that junk, we’ll be up all night.”
Peter shook his head with a laugh. His usual mirth and charm had returned instantly. He slipped his arm under hers and drew her close. “I can’t think of a better way to spend the evening.”
