[ Cordelia groans. ] Ugh! You’ve got to be kidding. I thought this was all over! Are we seriously revisiting this again? The claw marks, the boils, the burns. But wings? Are we going to be attacked by some wild demonic bird now ( Read more... )

[She's...revisiting claw marks? Boils? Burns? Sounds like she used to work at Madam Finch's brothel above the Twelve Daggers.

Possibly best to proceed with caution with this one:]

You'll find, darling, that the only demonic birds in Luceti are the ducks.

Stay. Clear. Of them.

There has to be more than absolutely nothing. You have me at a disadvantage, darling, and I don't like that sort of thing.

A disadvantage? Would giving my name even the playing field?

Your name, and your crimes.

The name's Cordelia Chase. I think being in the wrong place at the wrong time is more my crime than anything else, mystical voice that's talking to me through a journal.

[ ... ] Got a name? Mystical voice is kind of a mouth full when said in full.

Sparrow. Captain Jack Sparrow. Or just "Captain," if you like; I won't argue.

Cordelia, eh?

[A familiar name! But what are the chances this is THAT Cordelia?]

Well--welcome, lovely, to Luceti.

Thanks. I think I'll just stick with Jack for the time being.

[ ... ] Let me guess. You're either the captain of hijacking boats or the captain of a boat.

I'm the captain of two beautiful ships, sweetheart. The Black Pearl, back home; the Joanna Joyce, here.

And in wherever it is you're from, whatever do you do?

They have ships here? [ She feels like a 'duh Cordelia' is appropriate right now. ] Are you navy?

Los Angeles. [ ... ] I work at a - [ Hesitantly, why not just go for it? ] - supernatural detective agency. I try to do some acting on the side.

[Jack SORT OF knows what a detective is, because he was friends with John Watson who was an assistant to a consulting detective.]

Ah. Like John Watson, 'cept with more---[Cue spooky fingers.]

Sounds fascinating.

And no, I've nothing to do with the navy at all. Whatsoever. Nothing. I'm a free agent, you might say.

[ If only she could see the spooky fingers, Jack. If only. ]

A free agent? You're either a boat thief or something else.

A "boat thief"? A PIRATE, darling. A pirate. That's what we're called, we boat thieves.

A pirate. [ That's new. And kind of fitting. ]

So, Captain Jack Sparrow, what do you do to occupy your time in Luceti besides boat thieving? Are the stories true? You look for buried treasure? [ And can she have some? ]

I've only found one buried treasure since I've been here. A beautiful, magical pennant flag, actually.

Other than that I pillage and maraud from time to time. Rum-drinking. Sailing. Playing darts. Chatting with Murphy. All sorts of things to do here, really.

Sounds like quite the life. I kind of got the impression this place was a bit boring. But, hey, if you can find something to do, there must be hope for us mere civilians.

So, your ship. Is it a proper ship? Not one of these tiny little speed boat kind of things.

She's not the biggest out there, but is very likely the fastest. Speed's more important to a pirate than strength, you'll find.

And this place is in no way boring, madam detective.
