Vid! Buffy meets the First Slayer...

Aug 11, 2010 15:28

My write-up of writerconuk is coming at some point, as are the RL forms I need to fill in and, heh, my plot_wout_porn fic... For the last couple of days, though, I've been rather blindsided by this vid I've been working on for a while, which has been distracting me from pretty much everything else. It's about Buffy! And the First Slayer! Upset and reconciliation ( Read more... )

Ooooooh I like this video. Don't care much for the song (it's a little too busy for me) but it was used to great advantage in this. Wonderful use of those creepy shadow puppets.

Nicely done, sweetie. I'm very impressed.

Thanks very much!! I'm thrilled that you like it. My taste in music is ever so slightly peculiar, so I had a feeling that the song would be beyond a lot of people's enjoyment, but I love the way it's put together. (Yay that you think my vid worked with it!) :)

Okay, the music was kinda painful for me!

But I loved the way you cut and intermixed the video. And the effects taking the images to like a drawing/traced form.

I think I might watch it again without the music. :p

Whoops, sorry about that! (Even the ending, though? It goes all nice and melodic! :P)

Anyway - thanks very much!! It seems when I make videos that I end up with a pet-effect each time, and the edge-tracing one in this seemed to work with the shadow puppets.

I haven't actually tried it without the music; I think I need to now!

I think it's that that particular noise is like my kryptonite. Even when the screeching calmed down, it was still too much for me. It's like... when I hear the sound of styrofoam crunching, it's like I want to curl up into a ball and moan until it stops. Literally. That sound makes my spine shrivel, makes me kinda spasm in a "no no no make it stop" way.

But I'm so impressed with how you manipulated the video and I felt like the story was still strong without the music accompanying it.

See, I'm a big fan of music-that-borders-on-noise (and really wanted to do something that wasn't to indie rock).

Still, thank you! I'm glad everything still came across well. (Heh, and I might have to edit it a little bit anyway for the music, because the more I watch it the more there's this one moment than seems more out-of-sync than I can tolerate.)

I'll have to wait until the next time I boot up my laptop (assuming it will boot up) to watch this, as our old desktop computer just makes vids all jerky. I will watch it as soon as I can, though. I thought your Final Fantasy vid was wonderful.

Cool! I'd love to hear what you make of it. (I think my Final Fantasy vid is in some ways better than this one, to be honest, simply because there was more movement to work with in the material. It's also calmer, if that's your thing! ;) )

That was terrifying (in a way that didn't actually terrify me at all)!

Then I think my work here is done.

You finished it - yay you! I think you're right, the puppets are the strongest bit, because there's more movement that you can play with. But there are some great cut/fade moments too for the later parts, and I loved those near white-out moments with the puppet skeletons just a hint in the background. The shifting tempo and mood works very well with the contrast of the two halves too.

Yay! (Of course, now I'm behind with everything else! :/) Thank you - I tend to think it's a bit risky going with effects that are too obvious, but it felt right so I'm glad you liked it. :)
