Second Hand
~ A Hikaru no Go fanfiction ~
by aishuu
Summary: Ogata makes his way into the pros. A character exploration of what shaped the Juudan himself.
Notes: This was originally going to be my next blind_go entry, but I couldn't squish it into that mold. This will stand as a oneshot, although I do have a couple of parts planned - depends if there's enough ( Read more... )

This is lovely, I really hope you decide to continue with it! I like how realistic this is, Ogata acts like he's twelve, and I especially enjoyed glasses vs contacts debate. I love Ogata's mom, she fits into the Hikago mom category perfectly.

*laughs* I think Sanae is a bit different than Akiko or Mitsuko in that she's actually a working mother. This is set a bit earlier (I'd guess mid-eighties), and Ogata's background (in my head) is quite different than Akira's or Hikaru's. If I keep this up (which I'm starting to lean toward), there will be a bit of family history involved. Glad you enjoyed!

Oh my gosh, I really loved the excerpt you showed me before, but the full story is awesome. It works as a oneshot, but I really hope you write more within this universe. I especially like the whole idea of Ogata growing up in a poor family with a single mother--it explains a lot about his personality--and Tsukiota 5-dan is such an interesting character. This is fabulous, and the last line really cinches it. XD

Thank you - I was getting frustrated with the whole concept, so I decided to chop it down and go the oneshot route. Of course, there's still room to develop. My issues involved the nature of original characters, but it's natural Ogata knew different people. I like Sanae and Tsukiota quite a bit, since they're very dimensional to me.

I've never really thought about Ogata that much, but this makes me wonder more about his history. You make him seem more real and three dimensional than he ever was in canon. I'm with tarigwaemir- it would be really nice if this continued *hint hint*, but it's also a great oneshot.

Wonderfully done.

Thank you - actually, I'm rather notorious for my Ogata-dislike, but I found that working with him has made him more understandable to me. There has to be a reason for his actions.

Just to let you know, I'm going to bookmark this and review it properly when I get a chance to, hopefully this weekend. I absolutely love this concept, especially since it's so untouched. <3

I can honestly say that I absolutely love your depictions of the HikaGo fandom. This was so wonderful, not to mention that it's also really nice to get fanfiction starring Ogata where he's not a pervert/rapist/pediphile... =_=;;; Especially since I think he's an AWESOME character, and totally love him to pieces...

I'm with everyone thus far in thinking that you should so continue with this. In fact, I actually feel that it fits in quite well with the characterization of your Ogata in Burning Brightly. The way in which he treats Hikaru (it seems a little reminiscent of Tsukiota Ken-san, IMHO), as well as his fears that now that the new wave is here, he *won't* be able to fulfill this vow that he has made with himself - to become the best.

Loved it. Really.

Kamikumai.

I never really considered it, but I suppose it would fit into the BB universe - which is fine, since Second Hand takes place before the divergence. Still, I'm hoping it fits into "canonverse" for a lot of people.
