I adore this drabble. Since a lot of Hikaru no Go seems to come down to Go is a game played with two people, a lot of characters seemed to get left behind. Ochi is such a hard character to sympathise with in HnG at times, but this really brought out his better points.

Ochi becomes more likeable during the Hokuto Cup - it's hard not to respect him for giving Yashiro a chance to take his place. It could be pride, but I think it's character growth. I think Ochi has some of the fundamentals down better than most of the series' characters.

I think I have the Hookuto Cup scanlated ... just haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm a huge PoT fangirl, but the HnG manga is reminding me just what other fandoms I'm in, too. ^_^

But I couldn't /not/ comment on your Ochi fic. I have a huge love for this kid, who acts so aloof and is often unpleasant, sometimes even mean, but is smart and values very much pride and honesty. Even if he knows he's good in Go, he's always in search of some acknowledgment: he wants to pass the pro exam undefeated, wishes that Touya'll recognize his strenght, and in the end challenges Yashirou. And, poor kid, he always fails. I'm glad you give him a happy ending here.

*laughs* Ochi won me over in the Hokuto Cup arc. Before that, I just found him annoying - but that arc really revealed his motivations to me.
