This is really interesting and heartfelt. Fannon tends to dictate that Kurt's mom would know exactly what to do and let him be as 'him' as he wanted, but I think this is far more realistic, if more wrenching. Can't wait to read part 2!
Thank you - I really enjoy your work as well, so I'm very pleased you liked this.
I find the fanon interesting for Mrs. Hummel - Burt says Kurt is his mother, but most portrayals have her as sweet and strong in a very gentle, feminine kind of way. I decided this made a heck of a lot more sense to me... and that if she was thinking about the Burt she married, she could very well have doubts about if he'd have accepted Kurt since we know he used homophobic slurs in the past. Burt Hummel is such a compelling character because he is an exception to the stereotype. But Kate wouldn't know that he is.
Well, and at the point he died in this AU, there's a chance he wasn't the exception yet. It took him years of struggling to get to where he is now, a fact he doesn't mind admitting, and I'd be willing to bet that a lot of that change had to do with being the only person Kurt had left in the world - and trying to think of what Kurt's mom would have done.
Agreed. But I think that would haunt Kate, because she can't assure Kurt that his father would have understood. For a child like Kurt, that's an uncertainty that will definitely prey at him.
I totally agree with all the comments above - this is great, really true to life. Kate would have problems dealing with Kurt just like Burt, they'd just different ones. Looking forward very much to Part 2.

I think life for Kurt with a mother wouldn't have been better, just different. I think you'll see that in part two.
